The purpose of the First in Family scholarship is to encourage participation in higher education by first-generation college students who have significant financial needs (as defined by standard calculations based on financial aid application information), as well as a desire to succeed academically. Qualifying students are individuals whose parents have never earned a bachelor’s degree.
- Be a first-generation student (neither parent nor student has received a bachelor’s degree).
- Demonstrate potential for academic success (as reflected by Grade Point Average): Minimum GPA 2.5
- Document financial need according to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov or Texas Application for State Financial Aid.
